How this is measured

Incidents come from DeFiLlama's public hacks dataset, refreshed every two hours. Amounts are DeFiLlama's estimates and are revised as more becomes known; very large first figures are marked as not yet confirmed. Where the hacked protocol has its own token, Fexr links the incident to that token; an exchange hack is never tied to the exchange's token.

Why it matters

A hack can reach beyond the protocol that was hit: stolen funds are often sold, a bridge that loses its collateral can leave wrapped tokens unbacked, and lenders holding the affected token can take losses.

How it happened matters as much as the amount. Leaked keys and supply-chain attacks point at operations; contract bugs point at code.
