How this is measured
Open interest is the value of all open positions in a perpetual futures market at the mark price. The 24-hour change compares the latest reading with the reading closest to 24 hours ago. Only markets with at least $10M of open interest are ranked.

Why it matters
Rising open interest with a rising price means new positions are backing the move; rising open interest with a falling price means new shorts. Falling open interest means positions are being closed or liquidated.
Because open interest is measured in dollars, part of every change is the price move itself.
